Lake Central Softball

After winning the Duneland conference, sectionals, and regionals, the Lake Central Indians are on their way to state for the 4th year in a row!

Sectionals:  May 28, 29, 2004

In game 1 Lake Central stomped Munster 10-1, with Bethany Toyias pitching a 3-hitter and LC on fire with their offense.

In game 2 the Indians won the sectional championship for the first time on their home field against Lowell 6-2.

Regionals:  June 05, 2004

In game 1 Katie Mitchell sent the ball sailing for Lake Central's win against Portage 1-0.  Bethany Toyias once again pitched almost flawlessly.

In game 2 Bethany Toyias pitched a 2-hitter and Katie Mitchell drove in two runners in the first and third innings.  With an unshakable defense, Lake Central triumphed over Penn 2-0.

State Semifinals:  June 11, 2004

Lake Central won against Dekalb 1-0 on Friday, with only one run scored in the first inning by Angie Funston.  Bethany Toyias once again pitched an amazing  game and the Indian's defense remained unbeatable.  Lake Central will face for the third consecutive year, Center Grove for the state championship.

State Finals:  June 12, 2004

In the most exciting game of the tournament, Lake Central beat Center Grove 4-1 in the bottom of the twelfth inning on early Sunday morning.  Center Grove scored one run off Bethany Toyias in the twelfth inning and Lake Central hadn't been able to hit off Darcy Wood all night, who set a new state record with 22 strikeouts.  With two outs, it seemed the Indians would end their amazing season with a consecutive loss to Center Grove.  Center Grove fans were celebrating and Lake Central fans had lowered their heads disappointment.  But sophomore, Alyssa Duncan decided it wasn't over.  With runners on second and third, Alyssa swung at the first pitch and sent the ball flying over the wall of the field!  This was just the way to end Lake Central's season.  Not only with the State Championship, but also with the confidence of knowing they can overcome anything.
